By Jim Hurley, Chesapeake Trucking Accident Injury Lawyer
It’s one of the worst nightmares you can imagine as a driver. You are on a road with hairpin bends and conditions are foggy. Suddenly you see headlights and realize they belong to a tanker truck. And it’s heading straight for you, in your lane.
This is the scenario that faced a 50-year-old from Lee County, Virginia on Nov. 20, 2007. In a recent settlement he was awarded $750,000 for serious injuries suffered in that crash.
As Chesapeake trucking accident injury attorneys we are pleased to see this driver getting some compensation for his injuries from the trucking company in Lee Circuit Court, Virginia. But no amount of money will make up for his injuries.
Virginia Lawyers Weekly reported the 50-year-old who taught mine safety at Mountain Empire Community College in Lee County, VA was involved in an accident with a tanker truck.
He moved as far to the right as possible to avoid the truck and hit his brakes but there was nowhere to go. The force was so severe the floorboard of his car was ripped open and his foot was trapped inside.
The injuries suffered by the plaintiff included a left acetabular fracture, left foot and ankle injury, a broken right arm and other injuries.
He had a condition that would have required hip replacement in the future but his lawyers argued it would accelerate the time in which he would need the surgery.
My congratulations go to the plaintiff’s lawyers Matthew W. Broughton and Gregory D. Habeeb and H. Ronnie Montgomery. The case was resolved before mediation.
As an experienced Virginia truck accident attorney I am well aware of how a wreck between a car and a truck even at a low speed can have terrible and sometimes fatal consequences for the driver of the lighter vehicle.
