By John Cooper, Trucking Accident Lawyer
As an experienced tractor trailer accident attorney in Hampton Roads, Virginia, I see many accidents in which drivers and passengers of cars are severely injured or killed in accidents with tractor trailers.
It’s worth noting that many truckers also lose their lives on the highways of America, often in collisions with other trucks. Recently a truck driver lost his life in a fiery accident on I-64 in Newport News. At Cooper Hurley Injury Lawyers we represent the victims of trucking accidents across the United States.
The danger to truck drivers was also illustrated this week by a wreck in Macon in Georgia in which a trucker lost his life on I-75. The Georgia Department of Transportation website said five trucks were involved in the crash at South Perry Parkway.
The Georgia State Patrol received a call about two pick-up trucks involved in a rear end collision on Dec. 23 while driving south on I-75. One of the drivers in that crash was injured and taken to Medical Center, Navicent Health, local news media reported. The accident became more complicated when two tractor trailer drivers going north saw the crash and stopped on either side of the northbound lanes. A local TV station reported on how a FedEx truck going north on the east shoulder struck the big rig that had stopped in the rear. The FedEx truck then jackknifed and crashed into another tractor trailer that was going north in the middle lane. The driver of the first truck had got out of his tractor trailer when he stopped for the wreck. He was hit by the FedEx truck that killed him instantly . The FedEx truck driver was injured and treated at a hospital in Perry. Charges were reported to be pending in this case and a GSP Specialized Reconstruction Team is conducting a follow-up investigation of the circumstances of this tragic accident. My thoughts are with the family of the trucker who lost his life.
In cases that involve a number of trucks and parties, there may be a complicated liability scenario. A trucking company or a large entity like FedEx can be held liable for the actions or inactions of its drivers.
