By John Cooper, Newport News Trucking Accident Injury Attorney
This was the dramatic scene on the Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel this morning as a tractor trailer crashed, caught fire and was left hanging off the bridge.
Sgt. Michelle Anaya of Virginia State Police described a “single vehicle accident on the Monitor Merrimac Bridge Tunnel that has all southbound and northbound lanes shut down.”
She added: “A tractor trailer lost control and struck the bridge, the truck has caught fire and the cab of the truck is hanging over the bridge.”
The driver was reported to be trapped. As an experienced Newport News truck injury lawyer, I hope the driver is not seriously injured.
Fortunately, no other vehicles were involved in this crash, which demonstrates the huge potential for danger and death when big rigs wreck.
It’s not clear why this tractor trailer crashed. Our Virginia trucking accident attorneys will post more details when they are disclosed.
